Mercy General Surgery Residency Program
The General Surgery Residency Program based at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, is an AOA-accredited residency program with 20 approved post-graduate positions leading to board certification by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery. Des Moines University is the sponsoring institution. This five-year program offers surgical residents a rich educational experience that
provides advanced training in general surgery.
Our residents are active in undergraduate surgical education including the surgical skills lab and simulation. In addition, PGY3 general surgery residents from Mercy and other osteopathic surgical programs are encouraged to apply for and participate in the surgery research fellowship year in collaboration with Des Moines University. New surgeons who successfully complete the General Surgery Residency Program are prepared to practice state-of-the-art surgery in a highly competent fashion in any clinical setting.
