Honor Code
Des Moines University provides educational opportunities to students in the health care professions. As a necessary component for entry into the health care professions, students recognize that they must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
The Honor Code formally recognizes the ability of students to take responsibility for their professional behavior. Students are, therefore, expected to familiarize themselves with and abide by provisions of the code of ethics established by the professional organization relevant to each of us. In addition to the code of ethics established by the various professions, the expectation is that we will comply at all times with the Code of Conduct set forth in the appropriate Student Handbook established by the University and act in a fashion designed to meet the expectations of the profession, faculty, administration, general public and the student community. Consistent with such expectations of a health care professional, the following Honor Code has been established by DMU students.
The Honor Code
A student will not cheat (including plagiarism) nor tolerate those who do. A student will not steal nor tolerate those who do. A student will not lie nor tolerate those who do. A student will immediately report all suspected violations of the Honor Code that come under his or her observation; failure to do so shall be a violation of the Honor Code. Any form of retaliation against a student reporting a suspected violation or against a student cooperating in an investigation shall be considered a violation of the Honor Code. A student found to have violated the Honor Code shall be subjected to disciplinary action including dismissal from the University.
The Honor Code is designed to foster a professional and honorable way of life, and it extends to activities both on the premises of the University and in off campus activities. Development of an individual who will serve as an exemplary member of a profession requires compliance with the provisions of the Honor Code in all aspects of the life of the student.
