Des Moines University offers health care services to students at DMU Clinic’s student health services.
All office visits and other selected services are provided free of charge to full-time students enrolled in clinical programs and to their immediate family members. Please refer to the listing of covered services below. Students and family members are responsible for all non-covered services. Students and their family members may choose a provider from the student health services staff, including physicians specializing in family practice or internal medicine or a physician assistant.
All persons seeking care through student health services are required to present their insurance card prior to each office visit.

- Evaluation of minor injuries
- Evaluation of acute or chronic illness
- General preventive care
- Pelvic exams
- Allergy injections
- Dipstick urinalysis
- Urine pregnancy tests
- Rapid strep screens
- Occult stools
- Spirometry testing without bronchodilation
- Annual TB testing for students
Services provided at cost
- Immunizations for family members
- Immunizations and titers required for admission
- Nebulizer treatments
- Spirometry testing with bronchodilation
- Durable medical equipment (e.g., splits and ace bandages)
- All lab tests not included in the free services, including pap smears, pathology reports for biopsies, complete blood counts, cultures, etc.
- Procedures such as suture placement, wart removal, lesion removal, etc.
- Injectable medications
- X-rays (radiology services)

Student health services can be reached by calling 515-271-7883. Regular hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students with urgent health care needs can be seen from noon to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Friday on a first come, first-served basis. Students are encouraged to call ahead if possible to facilitate care during the noon hour.
