The Student Counseling Center helps students meet the personal challenges associated with identifying and accomplishing academic, career and life goals.

Our services include short-term counseling for individuals and couples, psychoeducational workshops, support group facilitation, referral services, crisis intervention, outreach and program development, and consultation.  The most prevalent concerns presented by students include stress, anxiety, depression and relationship issues.  All services are free and confidential.

Scheduling an appointment

Email us at counseling@dmu.edu.  Counselors do not access email or voicemail after regular business hours.  Call 911 in an emergency.

8 – 5 a.m. Monday through Friday
8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday

Early morning hours may be available as needed.

To access our offices after 5:30 p.m., call your counselor directly from inside the AC elevator and they will bring the elevator up to the fourth floor.

24-7 coverage

Off-campus and after-hours counseling is provided by the Aetna Student Assistance Program (SAP).  The SAP services are for all students, full and part-time, regardless of enrollment status in the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan. Services include free, 24-hour, confidential, toll-free telephone access to a counselor to help students manage issues before they become crises, crisis management services when needed, and links to additional self-help tools and websites.
