
2009 Summer Podiatry Preview for Students
The College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University is pleased to announce the 2010 Summer Podiatry Preview Program will be offered June 24 & 25, 2010. This two-day visit program is designed for undergraduate students with an interest in learning more about podiatric medicine as a potential career.
Students will spend two days at Des Moines University with current podiatric medical students experiencing campus and student life. Students will also spend time shadowing a podiatrist in our on-campus Foot and Ankle Institute. Most travel, lodging and meal expenses are covered by Des Moines University.
How do I qualify for the program?
To qualify for the 2010 program, applicants must:
- Plan to enter their sophomore or junior year of college in Fall 2010.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Submit the online application and required materials by May 3, 2010.
- Have an interest in learning more about Podiatric Medicine.
How do I apply?
Application Requirements
- Complete an online application
- Submit a copy of all undergraduate transcripts - these may be unofficial copies, faxed or emailed.
- Submit one letter recommendation from a professor or academic advisor.
When is the application deadline?
May 3, 2010.
What expenses will DMU cover for the summer program?
- Students' airfare or mileage is reimbursable (up to $500) after students arrive in Des Moines and provide us with original receipts.
- Student housing is provided at a local hotel.
- Transportation within Des Moines will be provided to and from the hotel, campus and other locations.
- Most meals, transportation and activities with DMU students and faculty are provided throughout the event.
How will the DMU Summer Program benefit me as a future podiatric medical school applicant?
- All students attending and completing the Summer 2010 program will be granted an interview if they apply to the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University.
- The Summer Program will provide the opportunity for students to shadow a podiatrist and spend time in our on campus clinic..
- Students will experience Des Moines University with current podiatric medical students and faculty members.
