Research Projects

Numerous ongoing research endeavors mark the high level of research participation at DMU. The Office of Sponsored Programs works with faculty to help secure external funding for their research projects and oversees grant administration activities. This Office also manages the research regulatory committees, including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Review Board, Radiation Safety Committee and Biosafety Committee. Sources of extramural funding for research include the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, Administration on Aging, American Heart Association, National Science Foundation, American Osteopathic Association and industrial and pharmaceutical companies.

Ongoing research projects include:

  • Programmed cell death of cancer cells.
  • Use of viral agents as oncolytic mediators.
  • Research in bioethics and geriatrics.
  • The role of aging in pain perception.
  • Natural products in control of hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.
