Mission, Vision, and Values
Students play a vital role in research at DMU, which maintains laboratories for basic, clinical, and applied research. The research enterprise at DMU allows students to share in the joy of discovery along with faculty mentors. Students frequently contribute to published faculty papers, make research presentations at national meetings, and develop and pursue their own projects, several of which have drawn national interest.
Undergraduate students from colleges and universities in the central Iowa area also conduct research in DMU laboratories, and during the summer, undergraduate research students from around the country participate in research experiences.
Our Mission
To extend the University's capacity for research and scholarly activity to a level of high impact upon the science and practice of the health professions.
Our Values
- Integrity is at the core - Research is a search for what is true; how can we engage in a search for what is true if we cannot be objective, honest, and responsible in our conduct?
- Creativity - Is essential because if research is the discovery of new knowledge, we must be able to imagine and develop novel ideas and processes.
- Collaboration - Is one of the critical models for medicine because science has become too big and too complex to work in isolation.
- Mentorship - Is the means of cultivating in our proteges the passion and potential for future discoveries that exceed those coming from our own generation.
- Commitment - Every great and worthy enterprise is only realized only as it is pursued not as a project, a job or a pastime, but as a consuming goal of one's life.
Our Vision
Better medicine, improved health and quality outcomes through the active discovery and application of knowledge.
