International students seeking to enter a program of study at Des Moines University must obtain an appropriate visa issued by the U.S. Government.

Des Moines University is approved to issue a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Form I-20. Upon receiving the completed Form I-20 from DMU, you will be able to apply for an F-1 (student) visa.

I am not currently in the U.S.

  • Apply to Des Moines University as a full-time student.
  • Complete the SAIS form and submit it to Des Moines University.
  • Provide documentation of professional licensure/practice privileges for your chosen profession in your country of citizenship.
  • Upon acceptance to DMU and payment of your seat deposit, receive an I-20 form issued by Des Moines University.
  • Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee (see www.fmjfee.com).
  • Apply for an F-1 visa through the U.S. Embassy in your home country (see LIST of embassy locations).
  • Prepay tuition, fees and expenses for your entire course of study at Des Moines University prior to April 30.

I am currently in the U.S. on a different type of visa (not an F-1 student visa).

  • Follow the guidelines and submit required documentation.
  • Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee (see www.fmjfee.com).
  • Once you have received permission to change status, follow the steps above to obtain an F-1 student visa.
  • Prepay tuition, fees, and expenses for your entire course of study at Des Moines University prior to April 30.

I am currently in the U.S. on an F-1 visa attending another school.

  • Apply to Des Moines University as a full-time student.
  • Complete the SAIS form and submit it to Des Moines University.
  • Provide documentation of professional licensure/practice privileges for your chosen profession in your country of citizenship.
  • Contact your current institution and
    have them complete a Transfer Form.
  • Upon acceptance to DMU and payment of your seat deposit, receive an I-20 form issued by Des Moines University to accompany your current F-1 student visa.
  • Prepay tuition, fees, and expenses for your entire course of study at Des Moines University prior to April 30.
