The Master of Public Health Program holds programmatic accreditation through the Council on Education for Public Health (http://www.ceph.org). This programmatic accreditation is above and beyond the University's accreditation through NCA, and shows a commitment to providing the highest quality education and adhering to the highest standards for operating a MPH program. CEPH requires that accredited programs emphasize three areas equally: Teaching, research, and service.
The DMU-MPH program was initially accredited by CEPH in 2002. In subsequent years, faculty numbers in the MPH program decreased resulting in limited research and service activities. CEPH reviewed the MPH program in 2005 and, while noting a solid curriculum, the lack of research and service activities placed us on probationary accreditation through October, 2007. At that time, CEPH will revisit our program and determine if we can regain full accreditation.
DMU strives for full CEPH accreditation, and we will spend the next two years working to increase MPH faculty numbers, establish a research agenda, and provide service activities for the professional community. As part of our efforts to be as transparent and forthright as possible, we have placed a link to the 2005 Final CEPH report below. We encourage you to read the letter for DMU President, Governor Terry Branstad, outlining the University’s intentions to rebuild the MPH program and to re-establish a fully accredited CEPH program.
Please contact Dr. Wendy Ringgenberg with any questions or comments regarding the CEPH accreditation.
Thank you.
