This rotation is located at the Universidad Autonoma of Yucatan(UADY) in Mérida Mexico. They require 4th-year students who are fluent in Spanish. It is suggested that no more than two students go together for a 4 – 8 week rotation.

Rotation information
The rotation will be a variety of family practice, OB-GYN, peds, etc. It will not be any one specific rotation. As part of this rotation, you will be required to write a paper outlining your experience or a clinical paper about some aspect of the medical care you provided while in the Yucatan. We would also greatly appreciate any pictures that you could provide to us of your stay there. The three diseases you will be dealing with the most are:
- Infections
- Chronic degenerative diseases
- Respiratory problems
During the weekends, the students organize “outings” where they go out into the community and work. You will be expected to participate in these trips.
Application process
There is an application that will need to be filled out. Check with the global health department to send you the information or log onto: www.medicina.uady.mx and click on “international clerkship rotation program” to find the application forms. Be sure to include your current transcript and picture.

Passports are required for any international travel – including this rotation site. However, student visas are not necessary. Please inform immigration that you would like “90 days permission” to stay in Mérida because you are coming in a studies program. If you are traveling with other students, plan to stay together as you pass through immigration.
Accommodations/Housing
Students have the option of locating an apartment or there is homestay available through the university. Accomodations usually consist of a family house room, three meals a day, with or without laundry services. The cost is dependent on whether you stay with another student. For a shared bedroom (one bed for each student), the cost is approx. $20 USD/student/day. If you would like your own room, the cost is approx. $22 USD/student/day.

Dress code
Students will be required to wear all white while on rotations in the hospital.
Food
In the homestay situation, American students are very common and the families provide three meals a day if the student wants. Food is very accessable and reasonably priced in Mérida.
