Medical Service Trip Information
Des Moines University has opportunities for students, faculty and alumni to travel to countries in need of basic health care to provide medical services.
The medical service trips take place once a year and are open to all students at the university. There is no academic credit for the trips; however, they are financially supported by the Global Health Dept. In the summer of 2007, a group of 21 students and healthcare providers traveled to Belize, In 2008 and 2009 the location was El Salvador. This June 2010, the group will travel to Guatemala.
These trips require an application to be filled out and certain standards need to be met in order to be selected. Future trips will be handled through the student DOCARE chapter at DMU. Contact the President of the DOCARE chapter, Jennifer Chambers at Jennifer.R.Chambers@dmu.edu if you are a current student and are interested in joining the next medical service trip to Guatemala.
