Biography
From Janesville, IA originally, I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Wartburg College. After graduating from Washington University School of Medicine Program in Physical Therapy in 1996, I practiced as a physical therapist in a variety of settings for 12 years before accepting this position at DMU. My background is primarily in outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine related physical therapy . I plan to graduate with a PhD in Kinesiology from Iowa State in 2009 with an emphases in biomechanics, motor control and epidemiology.
Clinical Interests:
Overuse injuries in runners and active populations
College/Medical School
Wartburg College, Washington University School of St. Louis School of Medicine Program in Physical Therapy, Iowa State University
Board Certifications
Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
Classes Taught
Teaching experience includes Biomechanics, Motor Control, Functional Anatomy and Introduction to Athletic Training at Iowa State University. At DMU, I will be teaching Health Promotion and Wellness and Clinical Decision Making in the PPDPT.
Research
My research studies the cumulative effect physical activity patterns, preferred movement patterns and health history have on overuse injury in active populations and long term bone and joint health. Other research interests include neuromuscular strategies of movement that contribute to injury and factors determining response to footwear changes.
