Biography

I have been a pastoral psychotherapist and licensed clinical psychologist in the Des Moines community since 1980. My background is in object relations theory, self psychology, attachment theory and trauma theory. My clinical practice at Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center includes short and long-term psychotherapy with adults and couples with a wide range of mental health and relationship concerns, as well as conducting psychological evaluations. As Director of Professional Education at the Center, I am involved in clinical supervision and teaching, and administer the Center’s psychotherapy training program for clergy and mental health professionals. I have been at Des Moines University since November 2003.

My research interests include: the nature of professional education, dissociative disorders, the destructive impact of violence on self-development, the nature of evil and how to conceptualize it for clinical practice, and the role spirituality and faith play in the health and well-being of people.
