Osteopathic Physician Recruitment Program (OPRP)
Reduce Your Student Loan Debt by Practicing in Iowa
The Osteopathic Physician Recruitment program places physicians in medically underserved communities in Iowa while reducing student debt load through combined funding from sponsoring communities and the State of Iowa.
DMU provides up to $50,000 through a State of Iowa grant and arranges for up
to $50,000 from the employing agency or community; DMU coordinates the match
between community and physician. Up to $100,000 of student loan debt is paid
to loans of your choice. In return for this loan forgiveness, you work in the
shortage area (population of 10,000 or less and is in Iowa) for at least four years. Your salary is negotiated between you and your employer.
The program identifies third-year residents and physicians just starting out who are interested in a rural or small-town practice. Any osteopathic physician completing residency in any specialty or who is board eligible or board certified can apply.
The Physician Recruitment Program has placed doctors in more than 50 rural Iowa communities in the last decade.
