Frequently Asked Questions
I have already applied for aid and I don't think it's going to be enough, can I get more money?
If you are not at your cost of attendance budget you may apply for additional funds. Please try to have your paperwork in February 15th.
How do I get my financial aid refund?
You must sign up for direct deposit through the Accounting Office.
When do I get my second disbursements?
Second disbursements are based on the length of the academic year. We ask for 2nd disbursements on the earliest day we can. Disbursement dates vary by program and year of school. Check out the dispursement date schedule.
Is there any way I can get my refund check early?
No. Federal regulations govern when the school can disburse money. There is an emergency loan available to help you. Contact the Accounting Office for details.
Do I have to apply for financial aid every year?
Yes. Every year you must fill out the FAFSA. If you have already completed a Stafford Master Promissory Note you still need to complete a Stafford Loan Request Form to indicate the amount you want to borrow (Same applies for Grad Plus Loan). Also, every time you want to apply for an alternative loan you have to fill out a new application.
Is there a deadline to apply for financial aid?
In general, no. But certain loans or scholarships may have deadlines. For example the Perkins loan and some DMU scholarships have deadlines. You should allow ample time for school and lender processing. Also if it gets too close to the end of the academic year or past it you may not receive the funds.
Do I have to put parental information on my FAFSA?
Only if you plan on applying for a Perkins loan and/or a Super Primary Care Loan
(4th year DO only). Please refer to loan section for details and deadlines.
