SUMMARY:IACUC 101™
DESCRIPTION:IACUC 101™: "The Basics" is a full day didactic and interactive educational opportunity for both new and seasoned IACUC members\, IACUC affiliates and others who contribute to their institution's animal care and use program. Didactic sessions address institutional responsibilities; IACUC charges; relevant informational resources; animal welfare laws\, regulations and policies\, and best standards. Students are also challenged to consider\, deliberate\, and develop action plans for a variety of potential IACUC scenarios. The faculty represents academic and biomedical research institutions\, the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC)\, the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW)\, and USDA Animal Care. All programs include opportunities for informal networking with the faculty and other attendees as well as questions and answers sessions with AAALAC\, OLAW\, and USDA representatives. IACUC 101™ presents a comprehensive overview of the laws\, regulations and policies that govern the humane care and use of research animals. Didactic sessions\, supplemented with examples and approaches for successful and effective program implementation and administration\, are followed by an opportunity to deliberate several challenging IACUC scenarios using information presented during the didactic sessions.
