Is fro-yo for you?

by

frozen-yogurtYou may have noticed a few frozen yogurt shops poppin’ up around town lately in the latest fro-yo craze. Maybe because it’s been so hot and all you can think about is enjoying something cold? It’s not like frozen yogurt is a new thing though. Many of us have fond TCBY memories from days of old, but within the last few years there has been a resurgence of sorts in the fro-yo business – specifically self-service shops.

Frozen yogurt can be a healthy treat if eaten in small portions without an overload of toppings. I know, it’s hard not to pile on the Oreo crumbles and gummy bears, I can attest to that, but your waistline will thank you for it.

A note from President Franklin

by

Dr. FranklinWelcome to DMU!!

This is a special greeting to the new and returning students arriving at Des Moines University this week! In my short time here, I have come to know that this is a very special place with a warm and engaging campus community. As a health sciences university we also have a compelling mission with a commitment to primary care, prevention, wellness and academic excellence. You join a community which places the highest priority on respect for the dignity and diversity of the members of the entire campus community and we are mindful of the fact that we have should always strive for excellence in all that we do.

Jazz in July

by

Jazz In JulyMetro Arts Jazz in July is a month-long festival that celebrates jazz and art with free outdoor concerts across Greater Des Moines. Each year, interested jazz musicians apply to be a part of the series. The selected list includes returning musicians from Central Iowa and national acts with Iowa ties. Each concert is a mini-festival experience with local artists, children’s activities, and food and drink vendors.

Hopefully you can make it out to one of the concerts in the upcoming month.

They’ve seen the light

by

I’m talking about the light at the end of their DMU tunnel: A week ago, DMU graduates and their families and friends reveled at the annual campus picnic in celebration of Saturday’s commencement. We talked with some of the happy grads about their plans, their favorite DMU memories and their advice for new DMU students.
