This is heart-warming, use it for inspiration today: see what this lil 4-year-old Iowa boy wants for Christmas. So now I know you’re wondering how you can do good too… here’s some options:
- Buy tickets for The Nada’s annual Silent Night concert Dec. 4, 8 p.m. The concert raises money & collects toys to donate to Toys for Tots. This year, pre-concert there will also be a silent auction and every dollar goes to Dylan’s Smile.

I may be 5’3″ (on a good day) but I like volleyball and DMU has an intramural league—PERFECT!
Why anyone ever thought to have a bunch of type-A personalities play sports against each other competitively, I am not sure…but at least we have fun! Seriously, it’s like perfection at its max. Everyone wants to win and play every move perfectly; its kind of hilarious.
Even with the immense competition I seem to always have a good time. My team rocks, not because we are good and win a lo, but because we are a bit crazy and always have a good time. I don’t think our record is all that great but we still have the tournament so hopefully we can whoop up then—here’s to dreaming!

Seriously, when you have such adorable nephews/nieces as I do, you have to show them off. So let me brag for one hot second. I know you may be rolling your eyes and thinking, “oh, these kids aren’t even gonna be cute!” I agree…sometimes relatives are blinded by the “cuteness” or “adorableness” of their child/nephew/niece but seriously I am NOT BLIND, people, these kids are cute. I get to see these three beautiful faces in a few days and I CAN’T WAIT!

Do you like to skate? I know I do. I use to pretend I was a professional ice skater in my rollerblades circling my garage until it made me hurl. And yet, I still have not figured out how to use the brake pads (so glad for walls to break my fall!)
I’m excited to try out my skills at the Brenton Skating Plaza which opens TODAY. Maybe I’ll “run” into you – I hope you are fully padded when I do!

I am of the opinion that you can’t go wrong with cheesy potatoes, so when I found this recipe for a “heart-healthy” version I had to share it! Reduced-fat and low-sodium ingredients keep this recipe healthy without sacrificing flavor. Check out Heart Healthy Living for more great recipes.
Ingredients
- 1 10 3/4-ounce can reduced-fat and reduced-sodium condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup shredded reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese (4 ounces)
- 1/2 cup fat-free milk
- 1/2 cup light dairy sour cream
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onion or 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 30- or 32-ounce package frozen shredded or diced hash brown potatoes, thawed
- 1/2 cup crushed cornflakes or crushed wheat cereal flakes

So, I don’t have a life most of the time but when I do…boy do I have a good time!
Last Friday I got to see the musical RENT at the Des Moines Civic Center and it was AWESOME. I am not obsessed or anything…I mean this is only just my fourth time seeing it live! ha ha! But it never fails — every time I LOVE IT and then pretend for the next few days to be a musical theater star around my house. I dance my rear off and sing my heart out in my room all by myself. Trust me, I would never have a chance to be a star, singing, let’s just say, is not my forte. But hey, that’s why I pay money to see people who are actually good.
