The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine Application Service (AACPMAS) updated their application process this year and we’re excited about the changes.
If you want to get into podiatric medicine, fill out the application, have your transcripts sent to the AACPMAS, and choose the podiatry schools where you’d like your app to be sent. (Choose DMU of course!)
I filled out a test application last night (I hope I get in!) and while it may seem a bit lengthy, it certainly is thorough. That’s what we want, a comprehensive look at you, the applicant, and why you’re the next best thing in podiatric medicine.

I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but honestly, most mornings I’m doing good to get out the door on time, let alone sit down and eat a balanced breakfast. That’s why I love grab-and-go recipes. Make something ahead of time and enjoy it the rest of the week. These bran muffins are a great way to start your day healthy. What’s your go-to breakfast when you’re running out the door?

Ginger Bran Muffins
3/4 cup bran cereal (not flakes)
1/4 cup boiling water
2 tbsp olive oil or canola oil
1 tbsp sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup buttermilk (If you don’t have buttermilk, make sour milk by adding 1 T vinegar or lemon juice for each cup of buttermilk. Let mixture stand for 5 minutes before adding to recipe)
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
2 tbsp raisins or other chopped dried fruit
1/2 cup unbleached flour
1 tsp baking soda

Just a reminder: this weekend is Labor Day. DMU will be closed on Monday. I apologize if you go through withdrawals. I understand your pain. Ha ha.
Not to worry though, there’s plenty to keep you entertained, regardless of your interests! There’s a blues fest at Living History Farms Saturday & Sunday. This weekend kicks off the first of 3 weekends for the Des Moines Renaissance Faire. Saturday night is a local MMA show. Or you could make it your goal to taste most of these “best in Des Moines” foods.

OMG, I’m so excited!! Des Moines made design*sponge!
Check out this brand new city guide with a great listing of hip DSM places to visit!
Plus, bonus, they even mention that Iowa is home to MMA legend Pat Miletich (I’m a fan!). We are nothing if not diverse here in the Hawkeye state!

The “sea horse” is a structure buried deep within each hemisphere of the brain. This term is more descriptive of the imagination of anatomists rather than its function. In a cross section of the cerebral hemisphere the hippocampus looks something like its namesake. The hippocampus is important in short-term memory formation. Patients who have damage to this area lose the ability to retain new information but usually retain old memories.

Did you know you can double the value of your fruit juice drinks simply by adding water? I found there is way too much sugar in a standard serving for fruit drinks like V8 Fusion or even Tropicana’s OJ. So if you want the juice to last a little longer or you want to drink more before hitting your daily value of sugar, dilute the drinks yourself by adding a quarter’s worth of your juice serving with water.
