We have completed one week of work here at St. Jude Hospital in St. Lucia and things are going well.
Throughout the week we evaluated and treated inpatients and outpatients. We have seen a variety of diagnoses including orthopedic, neurological and wound care. We have also been giving in-services on various topics in the afternoons to help the physical therapist’s learn more about manual therapy and therapeutic exercise.
Last Friday we completed eight home visits and tried to help with family education as well as gathering supplies for them like compression socks and prosthetics.

I have so many things that are just collecting dust like my old cell phone. I didn’t really want to let it go but before I dumped it, so I hesitantly made a listing on desmoines.craigslist.org. I was able to get rid of it for $20 within two days.
I also sold my iPod mini on amazon.com for $30 in a short period. (Disadvantage is that Amazon takes a commission and you still need to pay for shipping it. To get rid of it faster, sell it at the lowest price possible.)
I’m still waiting to sell my tap shoes on eBay.com. I chose eBay because I really love my tap shoes and wanted to get the most out of it through bidding.

I’m always looking for quick and easy healthy recipes and recently discovered Mayo Clinic as a great resource. I love how they organize the recipes by ingredients, servings, and meal. I couldn’t resist this yummy peach dessert. Whole wheat flour and oatmeal in this recipe help keep the calories down and focus the flavor on the fresh fruit. You can also find a nutritional breakdown after every recipe. This dessert is surprisingly healthy!
Peach Crumble
8 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced
Juice from 1 lemon
1/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup whole-wheat (whole-meal) flour
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons trans-free margarine, cut into thin slices
1/4 cup quick cooking oats

Whether you’re a food snob or you haven’t been out for dinner in months, you won’t want to miss Des Moines’ second annual restaurant week! 42 local restaurants are offering a 3-course prix fixe dinner (some include a glass of wine) or lunch for two for $25.
It’s a great chance to try a restaurant you wouldn’t usually be able to afford. The hardest part is picking where to go!
Check out the list of restaurants and menus here.
