Read an amazing story of recovery for one local girl. She was lucky to have CPR-trained people around her, including DMU alum Nick Sullivan!
Get some ideas for free or cheap outdoor fun in Des Moines.
I’m checking out El Patio on Ingersoll tonight with DMU friends. It’s walking distance from campus so hope it’s delish!
This cool exhibit opens at the Art Center Friday! I blogged about it back in January because it sounds so cool.
Oh & please, please, please contribute cool stuff for Abaton!

- Dr. Klock doing OMM
OMM – if you’ve been looking into medical schools, you surely have heard of this but may still wonder what exactly it IS. And if you’re reading this as a member of the public, you may have wondered whether it’s a treatment that’d work for you.
So, OMM (also called OMT) is short for osteopathic manual medicine – is non-invasive, hands-on therapy used to diagnose, treat and even prevent illness or injury. It is central to osteopathic medicine’s philosophy of treating the whole person, not just symptoms. The goal is pain-free movement and overall health.

I’ve received a few questions this week regarding running resources in Des Moines, so I did a bit of research on the topic.
First I thought I’d start by sharing a few of my favorite places to run: To the fridge during commercials, to the mailbox on my birthday and to the ice cream truck as it passes my house on a summer day. If that’s not what you had in mind, then perhaps these sites might be more helpful…

I can’t be organized all the time and pull together an actual post so here’s a roundup of some tasty food tidbits. This shall tide you over until my brain returns – haha!
This week the Register is making a list of 5 great Italian places. (My fave. will always be Tumea & Sons.) Here’s their list of top 5 steaks.
Winefest is this Friday. The Urbandale Historical Society is throwing an ice cream social (HOMEMADE ice cream!)
Addicts of TV foodie shows will be delighted to see who is coming to DSM in Nov!

There is so much going on this weekend in Des Moines! Because we have a brand new batch of students on campus (the PA class began this week!) I thought a list of some events might be helpful, so here goes…
Want to try some great BBQ, hear live tunes or enjoy a beer garden? Check out BarbeQlossal at the fairgrounds! Or maybe you’re in the mood for Greek food? Then check out the annual Greek food fair Saturday! I’m sad I can’t attend this year. I’ve been several times and it’s DELISH! Here’s some info from the Des Moines Register on both of those events.
