Iowa Hospital Association

by

Many of our staff, faculty, students and alumni work or have worked within the Iowa healthcare system (we have alumni in nearly every Iowa county!) That plus a campus-wide interest in health and wellness means we’re very interested in what local and national health and medical socities/associations are doing. These are important groups for not only networking but also prompting conversation, comparing data and pushing providers to be the best they can be.

Off to the market!

dtfm-tartsOne of my favorite summer activities is the downtown farmers’ market, Saturdays, 7 a.m. – noon. I love the abundant, local produce, yummy breakfast items, gorgeous flowers, people watching, dog-petting and fresh air.

I know it’s a favorite outing for my fellow DMU staffers & faculty as well as our students. I know this not only because our students constantly rave about it but also because EVERY week I go I see faces I recognize and DMU shirts.

To get info on where to find each vendor, see a map of the whole event and find out what’s in season for the week, visit the Register’s guide to the market and be a fan of the Facebook page for the market.

Anatomy program @ DMU

by

anatomyWhether you want to teach anatomy, be a physician or just understand the human body better, DMU’s Master of Science in Anatomy program may be perfect for you. You can take it in addition to your D.O. or D.P.M. or on its own. Read about the first non-dual degree anatomy grad, Jenna. She is a very sweet girl and DMU is proud to have her as an alum – we’re excited to see where she ends up!

This is a two-year program to earn your master’s degree. The faculty and facilities are top-notch and you’ll learn alongside other brilliant students of various programs.

coin-jar1Bad economy and recessionista – anyone else tired of hearing these terms?

We’re all tired of the reports, I suppose but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to still save money! Handily, Juice has a whole feature this week on saving money. Luckily we live in a state with a lower cost of living than the rest of the country which helps out a ton. Other things that help out…. a page with local coupons, and a whole network for Des Moines folks interested in being fiscally-thrifty. Here’s a blog with local deals. Des Moines Families always has great tips and deals too! The Register also pulled together a list of all free events!

Congrats, grads!!!

Today 430 special people graduate from Des Moines University. The faculty, staff, current students & past grads congratulate them. We know you’ll do great things!!  Go forth & heal!

P.S. We want to hear about your great things, so make sure you become a fan of DMU on Facebook, sign up for the alumni newsletter, email updates & attend events!

A field trip to DMU

by

by Rishi Shah* (11yrs, Downtown School, Des Moines, Iowa)

Did you ever have an opportunity to go see a real heart? Well, I have when we visited Des Moines University (DMU) in 3rd grade. We were greeted by Dr. Matz, who showed us around campus.
