I catch up with my cousin over the phone once a week and we talk about family, friends, boys, bars, her job and my school. I always enjoy our chat because it gives me some perspective.
When you’re in med school and all your friends are in med school, it’s easy to get caught up in the details. You get bogged down with tests, grades and the infinite excess of information you’re expected to absorb. It’s good to have someone tell you “it’s just a test.” It’s important to have someone to remind you one bad grade is not the end of the world.

If you saw students dressed as KISS, wearing hands like the HULK or calling themselves Membrane Attack Complex, what would you think they were up to?
If you guessed playing dodgeball, you’re correct!
To see photos of this crazy event, plus see how many showed up early Saturday morning to help out with The Project’s annual AIDS walk/run at DMU, you should check out the Des Moines University Facebook page and become a fan for regular updates!!

This event is open to students, staff, faculty and the public. Everyone can learn! Plus, it’s free to attend. There’s a cafeteria near the auditorium if you want to grab lunch to eat during the event.

Last night I enjoyed a lovely evening out with my sisters & mom. I’d won tickets from the Des Moines Register to see the Des Moines Playhouse‘s Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was delightful. Such a nice evening out. You can get a ticket for $20 which makes quite a cheap night of live theatre. The music was awesome, plus it’s always awesome to hear wonderful music and know it’s all done by local VOLUNTEERS! So cool. Millie runs through May 8. After that the Playhouse will have Little House on the Prairie and then The Life & Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. You can follow them on Twitter for updates on upcoming shows.

Have you figured out what you’re doin this weekend? If not, let me make a few suggestions…
On Friday you can head to the Vaudeville Mews and catch some local bands. These aren’t just any bands, either… They’re partially the work of our multi-talented students! Pumptown will play at 7 p.m….A folk/country/rock group made up by an Iowa family, you’ll enjoy them – make sure you cheer for D.O. student Amy Hynek! Also The Lymphomaniacs will play. That band includes DMU students James Halgrimson, David Lindenberg, Herman Chiu, Alex Reynolds & Adam Lang! (Plus they’ve got a funny name!) Buy tickets at the door for $10 or now for $8 at IowaTix.
