Good golly, Ms. Molly, I’m surrounded by smart people!!! (not to worry, this does not come as a shock to me but rather I am reminded on a daily basis of how amazingly talented the faculty and staff are at DMU.) Here’s a few recent pieces that feature some of the smartypants folk ’round here. […]

Honoring veterans

I always look forward to lunch meetings at DMU. Yesterday, we celebrated veterans’ day over lunch and to my surprise, there were many students dressed in their respective uniforms representing their service in the military. I am amazed at how many students there were on active duty or in the reserves. I don’t think there […]

Raise money/awareness for homeless kids

There’s a great event in Des Moines to address the issue of homeless youth—Reggie’s Sleepout. For one night, teams camp out together with entertainment and frivolity (a lot more fun than a homeless night outdoors) to raise money. In 2006, the event drew in $60,000 and last year it raised $138,000.

Helping hands

If you’ve read my posts over the last year or so you know how proud we are of our students’ community service work. But it’s time I took a minute to brag on my fellow employees as well! Our Community Service Committee and HR developed a policy, now in practice, that allows staff and faculty 40 hours […]

Pumpkins, apples, ghosts & goblins!

I’ll be the first to admit that autumn is not my favorite season. BUT one of my favorite things about the season is picking out a pumpkin and picking apples. It’s cheap entertainment and you get to enjoy the fall colors, bundle up in a sweatshirt and hang out with people you love. What’s better? […]

Come Discover DMU on Sept. 3!

We’re not big fans of boring tours and monotonous presentations, plus that wouldn’t represent our school very well. So we instead came up with Discover DMU Day, a dynamic, hands-on, action-packed, open house-style event for prospective students. Discover DMU Day is exactly as the name describes – a way for you to personally experience the […]
