Iowa’s healthiest state initiative

September 29, 2011 —

Healthiest State InitiativeAccording to the 2010 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Iowa is #19 in the nation when it comes to being physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. As a state we know we can do better, so we plan to claim the #1 spot by 2016.

This initiative to be the healthiest state in the U.S. kicks off next week, when Iowans are encouraged to hit the streets for the Start Somewhere Walk.

Des Moines University invites our neighbors and community to join our Start Somewhere Walk on Friday, October 7th at noon. We will have a route west on Grand Avenue from our campus and invite anyone along the route or others wanting to be part of this statewide initiative to join us. Feel free to join DMU anywhere along the route and walk with our students, faculty and staff as we take this step to becoming the healthiest state in the nation.

Des Moines University is proud of our commitment to lifelong wellness and are pleased to join this effort. Hope to see you there!
