Since you last heard from me….

February 3, 2011 —

Nearly 3,000 miles were put on my car, I visited 7 states (skied in 3 of them) and completed a health promotion practicum over my extended break.

However now I’m back in Des Moines and school is back in full swing!

It took me a week to get back into the school groove after skiing and traveling all break. I still don’t think I’m completely adjusted because during a study break I turned my driveway into a ski jump (maybe I shouldn’t watch X-games while I study).

On Friday a large group made up of D.P.T., D.O. and D.P.M. students went to a Buccaneers hockey game.  I couldn’t tell you much about the game but the 3 fights were cool.  It was a great time reconnecting with all my classmates I hadn’t seen for a month — I still can’t believe how many came back to class engaged (congrats to you all)!

Jubil Young grew up in southern Iowa and went to Iowa State University where he was involved in the Outdoor Recreation Program. This let him travel all over the U.S. during school breaks. He spent summers as a raft guide on the Colorado River and returned to school each fall with more hair each consecutive year. Before long he was taking three-day weekends to race his mountain bike in Utah or ski in Colorado. After college he worked as a personal trainer, a health and fitness specialist and a rehabilitation aide before applying to physical therapy school. When he was accepted to DMU, he went back to the mountains for one last summer but ended up staying two years under a deferment. Coming back to Iowa has been a shock but the transition has been eased by his family.

Did you drive those 3,000 miles yourself? In how many days? I’ve never ever driven a car, not even a single mile.
