Iowa Hospital Association

May 29, 2009 —

Many of our staff, faculty, students and alumni work or have worked within the Iowa healthcare system (we have alumni in nearly every Iowa county!) That plus a campus-wide interest in health and wellness means we’re very interested in what local and national health and medical societies/associations are doing. These are important groups for not only networking but also prompting conversation, comparing data and pushing providers to be the best they can be.

The Iowa Hospital Association recently started social media outreach to better serve their audience. You can follow them on Twitter, find out about events or read their blog. You can even sort for topics related to Des Moines University! Yesterday’s post addressed the issue of provider shortages in rural Iowa, adding information about DMU’s Area Health Education Centers. Please join the conversation – add your ideas, suggestions and comments.

Courtney Tompkins has been part of the DMU marketing team since Nov. 2005 and loves promoting a school she believes in so thoroughly. Proud daughter and patient of DMU alumni, Courtney knows, first-hand, that Des Moines University is doing a world of good. A fan of all outdoor festivals, fruity drinks and nearly all edibles, she has a hard time narrowing down her list of favorite places to go and things to do but lists the Iowa State Fair as an all-time fave. She loves her 8-minute commute to DMU from Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines. She and husband Tyler are owned by three large dogs, Tonka, Tucker and Tank.
