Second-year D.P.M. students at DMU have the opportunity get ahead of the curve now and shadow clinicians on campus before rotations. I was there yesterday tagging along with the third-years who made it a positive experience for me and the clinicians who, naturally, were happy to teach and answer all of my questions. I spent […]

I’m in my second year of my podiatric education and have found new appreciation for the profession. If you’re not a podiatrist or a podiatry student, you may be thinking, why did I choose the feet? Well this is a mini-story on my initial reaction about podiatry and where it has taken me up to […]

Lest you think we’re all pork chops & corn on the cob here in Des Moines, this story will remind you’re we also have some superb pizza around town! One of my personal favorites is Big Tomato Pizza on Ingersoll (dangerously close to DMU!). They serve pizza by the slice late at night and offer […]
People with children check the schools out before moving to a new area so at DMU we tell prospective students about how great the schools are here in the Des Moines metro area. But maybe your ‘kids’ aren’t human… maybe they have lots of fur and bark or meow. If that’s the case, you also […]
It’s hard to believe, but I have already been a medical student for three months (that is 1/16 of my med school career if anyone was wondering). In the beginning of August we arrived on campus with our orientation schedules in hand, anxiously awaiting what was to come. At that moment, few of us […]
We received some very sad news at DMU this week. 1990 graduate Dr. Stephen DeVore, D.O., passed away due to heart problems Tuesday. Dr. DeVore practiced in the metro up until a few years ago. Known as a great doctor, he took it a few steps farther and many will remember him for his passion […]
I always look forward to lunch meetings at DMU. Yesterday, we celebrated veterans’ day over lunch and to my surprise, there were many students dressed in their respective uniforms representing their service in the military. I am amazed at how many students there were on active duty or in the reserves. I don’t think there […]
Please take a moment on this veterans’ day to remember those who lost their life while protecting our freedom. Use the day also as a reminder to thank those who have fought or continue to defend our country. The following are active or past members of the United States military at DMU (* denotes […]

There’s a great event in Des Moines to address the issue of homeless youth—Reggie’s Sleepout. For one night, teams camp out together with entertainment and frivolity (a lot more fun than a homeless night outdoors) to raise money. In 2006, the event drew in $60,000 and last year it raised $138,000.
