What advice would you like to share with prospective students?

Be yourself and don’t get stressed out. The entire process of applying and interviewing can be overwhelming at times, but don’t let it get to you. Try to take this time to relax and have fun.

Why do you want to be a PA?

I want to be a PA because I am fascinated by medicine and I enjoy being able to help people. I know that I will really enjoy being a PA and the job opportunities are endless.

What are your extracurricular activities?

I like to participate in the different events DMU puts on like the free sports physical and RUN DMU. I also play slow pitch softball on the weekends. I like to be active whenever I can.

Why did you choose DMU?

I chose DMU because I had heard many great things about it. When I came here for an interview it felt really comfortable and everyone was genuinely nice. Also being from Iowa it was nice to stay in Iowa. I am extremely happy with my decision.

What are your career objectives?

After DMU I plan to join the military as a PA. I feel very strongly about being able to give back to my country. Looking forward I would like to work in either emergency medicine or surgery, but I am really open to anything.

What is your favorite thing about Des Moines?

I enjoy everything about DMU. The teachers here are extremely helpful and willing to do anything to help you understand the material. Also everyone gets along very well that it feels like a large family here.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

When I am not studying I kick back and relax. The schedule is pretty demanding and when I don’t have to study it is very nice to just hang out. It makes time that much easier. I also like to spend time with friends and family.

In what way is DMU family friendly?

DMU is very open to family. They are very willing to help students out that need to make family arrangements. They understand that family is important to every student and don’t try to take you away from them.

Were you surprised by anything in the program?

I was somewhat surprised by the speed at which the PA program moves. It moves very quickly and can be very overwhelming but the program does a good job of making it manageable. A nice thing about the speed is that the time flies. It seems like yesterday that we started and before I know it I will be getting ready for my clinical year.
