Were you surprised by anything in the program?

The opportunities for relationship building and networking. I have such a diverse group of peers – and that certainly sets the stage for some really great conversations.

Any advice for prospective students?

Find a work/life balance. I have to understand what my limits are, and plan in advance, or I am burnt out before I realize it.

Are you primarily taking courses online or on campus? Which format do you prefer and why?

Both! And both! There are certainly classes I wouldn’t have felt comfortable taking online, like statistics. That being said, I often find in my online classes I am having to contribute to the course in a way that can be really challenging, and that certainly creates opportunities for learning.

Extracurricular activities:

I work for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield by day. I am also very involved in a ministry called AWAKEN, I travel a lot to visit friends, and I love reading nonfiction books.

Why DMU?

During my undergraduate coursework, I had the opportunity to participate in experiential education – meaning that I was working (interning) while taking a class that aligned with my professional development. I really saw the value in experiential education, and I was very excited that DMU could offer me a similar opportunity!

Career objectives:

The vision I have for my future changes daily. Right now, I am really interested in continuing medical education and graduate medical education. Whatever I do, I want to contribute to the conversation surrounding health care – and enjoy doing it!
