Why do you want to be a physical therapist?

I want to be able to work one on one with patients that are going through a difficult situation. Seeing individuals progress through therapy and meet their goals is very rewarding.

Why DMU?

I really like their hands on manual therapy approach as well as the availability to interact with the professors. At DMU you get treated like a health care professional not just a student. Another reason was the technology on campus from simulation labs to laptops it is all really nice.

Career objectives:

As of right now I would like to work in an outpatient clinic or possibly a sports medicine clinic but I am not really set on any one setting yet.

Extracurricular activities:

In my free time I enjoy intramurals and working out at the wellness center as well as hanging out with friends and family.

Favorite thing about Des Moines:

The best thing about Des Moines is all the options you have for your small amount of free time. There are numerous opportunities to catch a concert, grab a movie, or go to a sporting event. Also for a decent size city it’s surprisingly easy to get around.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

When I’m not study I can usually be found watching T.V. or movies, hanging out with friends or visiting the wide variety of local restaurants.

Any advice for prospective students?

Do your research on what each program has to offer you, and pick the one that makes you feel most at home. You will be spending a lot of time there over the next few years so make sure it’s the institution you feel most comfortable with. My advice to new students would be to ask the older students for advice. They have all been there before and know what you are going through.
