Why do you want to be a physician assistant?

I want to able to use my knowledge and education to provide quality and compassionate healthcare to all patients, all while being a medical provider that has the opportunity to practice in any medical specialty at any point throughout my career. The PA profession really embraces the teamwork aspect of medicine, which is something that has always been a draw for me.

Why DMU?

Initially what drew me to DMU was the high PANCE scores of the program and the class size. When I came here for my interview, everyone was so welcoming and extremely friendly, and the technology available impressed me so much. I also love that the majority of the PA faculty are graduates of DMU.

Career objectives:

I am undecided in the specialty I want to pursue, but have found a strong interest in Women’s Health and Surgery.

Extracurricular activities:

AAPA, IPAS, PA Club, Homeless Camp Outreach, Intramural volleyball and basketball, PA student ambassador

Favorite thing about Des Moines:

It is a large city with a small town feel, a lot of running trails, great shopping centers, and restaurants. When not studying, there is so much to do!

What do you do when you’re not studying?

I enjoy my free time to the fullest by running, lifting weights, relaxing and having fun with classmates.

How is DMU family friendly?

All family and friends of students are invited to events hosted by DMU. My favorite aspect is the ‘Plus One’ for the Wellness Center. You can choose one person to share all the benefits of the fitness center that are available to students.

Were you surprised by anything in the program?

The faculty will do everything in their power to help you succeed, and our class became very close and supportive so quickly! It made the transition into PA school much easier.

Any advice for prospective students?

Apply early! Work hard to become a well-rounded student before applying, try to get as much clinical experience as possible, and enjoy time with family and friends before PA school.
