What is your advice for prospective students?
My advice for prospective students is to do as much research on the profession as possible to determine if PA is right for you. There is such a wide variety of specialties available to PAs in the field so weigh your options to see what interests you!
Why do you want to be a PA?
I love working with all types of patients and enjoy that a career as a PA allows me to have many different options as to what specialty I would like to work in.
What are your career objectives?
At this point in my studies, I have a high interest in the fields of Women’s Health and OB/GYN.
What are your extracurricular activities at DMU?
I am currently a student ambassador and class treasurer. I am also a member of the OB/GYN club and Psychiatry club.
What do you do when you’re not studying?
When not studying, I take time to relax by spending time with family and friends. We also enjoy finding fun new things to do in the Des Moines community when we get some free time!
What is a typical day like as a student at DMU?
Typically, our day consists of classes from 8-5 p.m. After class, many students take time to exercise, make dinner, or spend time with family or kids. Overall, days go by quickly with a lot of information, but it is neat to look back and see everything I have accomplished in a short timeframe!
Why did you select DMU?
I had visited DMU a few times over the years prior to choosing DMU. I was attracted to everything DMU had to offer its PA students—great instructors, new and improved technology, and overall a welcoming environment for learning. Everyone truly wants you to succeed here!
What is your favorite thing about Des Moines?
My favorite thing about Des Moines is that there is lots to do when you get some free time. There are great lakes to visit, malls, shops downtown, etc. It has been fun exploring the city on the weekends or whenever my friends and I need a break from the books!
