Were you surprised by anything in the program?

How different it was from undergrad. No papers or projects or presentations, just tests. You really have to be self-motivated and keep up with your studying.

Any advice for prospective students?

Make time for your family. Your relationship with them is still going to matter after 4 years, so you really have to nurture it.

How is DMU family friendly?

Allowing a Plus-One at the wellness center is great for me and my husband because we like to play sports and workout together.

Why do you want to be a doctor of podiatric medicine?

Podiatry doesn’t make you chose between having a family and being a surgeon. You can have both and do both well.

Extracurricular activities:

Play volleyball, read, volunteer at the Animal Rescue League

Why DMU?

I’m an Iowa girl to the core and wanted to stay in the area. Also, the campus is beautiful, and the atmosphere is a place I saw myself wanting to spend the next 4 years.

Career objectives:

My dream job would be owning my own practice in a small town in southwest Iowa.

Favorite thing about Des Moines:

Going to the Farmer’s Market!
