Chase Ungs, D.O.'12
Hometown: Ames, IA
Undergrad School: Central College, Pella, Iowa
Major: Biology/Psychology
Age: 25
Class: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine – Class of 2012
Were you surprised by anything in the program?
Everyone said that the students are very cooperative but I was shocked by how many people make study guides, flow charts, etc. and share it with the entire class. Everyone wants everyone else to do well in class and learn the material.
Any advice for prospective students?
Don’t forget to relax and have fun. The workload is intense, but manageable. Don’t forget to do the things that you enjoy and that help keep you sane!
Extracurricular activities:
Sports Medicine Club, Osteopathic Finish Line, Lab TA in anatomy and OMM, What’s in a Doctor’s Bag
Why DMU?
The professors are very open and helpful. Everyone has an open door policy which is great. Also, the sim lab, surgery lab and anatomy lab are all top notch. Very few schools have the up to date facilities comparable to DMU.
Career objectives:
Tossing around a few ideas: ER or possibly internal medicine specialty
Favorite thing about Des Moines:
No, it’s not the biggest city in the U.S., but there is always something going on to get me away from studying on the weekends with its small city feel in a larger setting. Also, there are lots of trails and paths to run and bike on.
