Any advice for prospective students?
I have found that it’s critical to have a stress reliever while in school. Going out and having fun with friends, exercising, playing with my dog, playing video games, or watching TV shows are all ways I like to reduce my stress. I feel like it’s very important to have healthy outlets like these in order to stay sane and motivated. Medical school is a lot of hard work and it’s very easy to get burnt out quickly.
Outside of being an officer in the ACMG SIG, I am also a member of the majority of the DPM clubs on campus.
When I first came to visit DMU I fell in love with the campus. The environment the students, staff, and faculty create is so inviting and supportive. Everyone is always so friendly and willing to help. I am very happy with my choice to attend DMU.
There are a couple of things I would like to accomplish as a future podiatrist. After residency I think it would be great to work in a multispecialty group. I would also like to eventually get into the academic side of medicine and help teach aspiring podiatry medical students as either a professor or a residency director. Lastly, I would like to continue promoting the importance of genetics as well as genetic research with in podiatry and would like to see more podiatrists participating in that type of research.
Favorite thing about Des Moines:
I love a lot of things about Des Moines, but my favorite thing is probably running and walking around Gray’s Lake with my dog.
