What is the Log Book?

The Log Book (acc. no. 04-02:D,1) was a university publication originally published by Des Moines Still College of Osteopathy from 1922-1972. The Log Book appeared first in a newspaper format and publication varied from semi-monthly to quarterly. It was directed to faculty, students, alumni, and friends of the university. The Log Book contains information about daily activities and is particularly useful in providing insight into life at the university in the 1920's to 1940's when no other documentation exists.

Move your cursor over the phrase that begins VIEW on the left side of this page. When the cursor changes to a pointing finger, click with your left mouse button. This will take you to the electronic index.

How do I get to a specific issue?

Once you're on the Index page, you just need to move your cursor to the issue(s) you want, and click the left mouse button. This will take you to the first page of that volume.

How do I move from one page to another in an issue?

The most basic way to move between pages in an issue is to use the scroll bar on the right side of your computer screen. You can also use the Page Up and Page Down keys on your computer keyboard. You can also use the features of Adobe Reader. To do this, locate the page changer arrows in either the top or bottom tool bar, depending on which version of Adobe you are using.

How do I move from issue to issue?

At the end of each issue, you'll see a link page. From there, you can go to the previous/next issue or back to the Index. Just click on your choice. If you're in the middle of an issue, just use your scroll bar to get to the end or the last page icon (the directional arrow with a vertical line to the right) on the Adobe Reader tool bar.

How do I search for a specific word, term, or name?

One way to do this is to use the icons on the toolbar at the top of the screen. If you want to search for a term through all volumes, click on the binocular and page icon. (In Adobe 6, click on the binocular icon.) This will bring up a window in which you can type the term you want. Type your term and click on the Search button. This brings up a list of the issues in which your term was found. Double click on the line to go to the first hit. To go to the second hit, click on Edit in the tool bar, move your cursor over the word Search in the drop down menu, and click on Next in the pop up menu. Alternatively, you may simultaneously hit the ] and CTRL keys on your keyboard.

In Adobe 6, you can click on the search results themselves to move to the right page.
