The Interview Day
Students who submit competitive applications are invited to the DMU campus for an interview. The day begins with check-in at the Enrollment Management (Admission) office between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.
Schedule
- 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. - We'll kick off the morning with photographs, introductions, and proceed on to a series of presentations. You'll receive an overview of Financial Aid and our COM curriculum, tour the Surgical Skills Laboratory, and observe OMM in action. The morning session concludes with a demonstration of our cardiac simulator.
- 12:20 - 1:15 p.m. - Lunch and campus tour with current COM students. This is your opportunity to see the DMU campus up close and talk with current students about their experiences.
- 1:15 - 4:30 p.m. - Individual interviews are staggered throughout the afternoon.
The Interview
Each candidate will meet individually with an interview team for approximately 30 minutes. The team normally consists of a DMU basic science faculty member, a clinician, and a current COM student. Occasionally, a fourth interviewer might sit in on the interview to observe as part of their training. The interviewers will ask questions about your academic strengths, interests, and your motivation towards a career in osteopathic medicine.
The Results
Following your interview, the Admission Committee will review your file and interview results and make a decision. Generally, you will receive the results within two weeks of your interview by email.
Your Stay in Des Moines
When you are invited to interview at DMU, you will be sent an email with online links to lodging, driving directions, and other travel-related information. You will also receive a link to a list of current students who have volunteered to host interviewing candidates in their homes or apartments for the night. Staying with a DMU student not only helps defray the expense of the interview in Des Moines, but it also provides an informal glimpse of student life.
