Dean's Message
In addition to the standard first two years of basic science education and final two years of clinical rotations, our distinctive four year curriculum is also carefully structured to allow our students to electively maximize the breadth and depth of their medical education in innovative courses such as the longitudinal Chronic Care Program as well as a generous selection of electives in the medical humanities, health policy and research topics. Students can also obtain dual degrees combining osteopathic medicine and public health (D.O./MPH) or health care administration (D.O./MHA) during their four years at DMU. A highly competitive one-year fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is also available. The 800 students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine excel both professionally and personally and are highly recruited into a wide variety of graduate medical education programs throughout the country. Eighty-eight percent of the Class of 2005 received their first or second choice of a residency. Today, medicine has never been more exciting or fulfilling with the promise of cure or prevention of many diseases on the horizon- a promise not even imagined just a decade ago. Our dedicated, outstanding faculty are committed to making our students a part of this exciting promise. Their devotion to a student-centered education promotes scholarship, professionalism and the development of the life of the mind- a philosophy that prepares our students for a lifetime of learning. I invite you to explore the many opportunities available at DMU where "Success is Contagious". Kendall Reed, D.O., F.A.C.O.S. |
