COM Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must have a bachelor's degree or complete the requirements for a degree before matriculation. We consider applicants regardless of major or field of study, as long as the degree is from an accredited school. Please visit the Class Profile for additional information.

Prerequisites

The courses below are required for admission; you may apply while coursework is in progress.

  • Biology/Zoology -- 8 semester hours with lab
  • General Chemistry -- 8 semester hours with lab
  • Organic Chemistry -- 8 semester hours with lab; may substitute 4 semester hours of Biochemistry
  • Physics -- 8 semester hours with lab
  • English, English Composition, Speech, or Literature -- 6 semester hours

Other recommended (not required) courses include Biochemistry, Histology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Anatomy.

NOTE: At least three semester hours of biochemistry will be required for candidates applying for admission after May 2008.

Medical Experience

Exposure to medicine is required so applicants will have already determined whether the osteopathic medical profession is right for them. This experience can be paid or volunteer. The exposure must be documented in a letter of recommendation from a health care provider.

The MCAT

Applicants must supply results of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) before being considered for admission. Test scores more than three years old are not accepted.

Academic Requirements

A science GPA and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher are recommended to be considered for admission to the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Other

Accepted students will be required to complete a criminal background check prior to matriculation.
