Leadership seminar series
In 2004, the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) published a validated set of competencies required for exceptional performance in managing health organizations across selected provider sectors, across disciplines of administration, nursing and medicine and across career levels (NCHL, 2006).
The leadership seminar series was developed to support the core curriculum in providing students with opportunities to achieve competency in the 26 identified areas. You can choose 7 elective credits from the 10 seminars offered to strengthen your skills.
Graduate certificate
The Graduate Certificate Option is for professionals who want to take classes in health care administration but do not want to complete the requirements for a master's degree. The certificate program requires 20 semester hours of course work and is developed individually with the student's adviser. The certificate was developed specifically for professionals who have a terminal degree and want to augment their knowledge. The certificate is available in the on-campus, online or combination format.
Nursing home administrator licensure
Our long-term care administration program is the only graduate-level program in Iowa approved by the Iowa Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators. Completing the M.H.A. Program can fulfill the board criteria to sit for the licensure exam in Iowa. For licensure, the state of Iowa requires an internship in long-term care along with appropriate course work. Long-term care offers growing opportunities in Iowa and other states. The need for highly trained, ethical and professional leaders in the field continues to grow.
