First-Ever 'Unified' DMU Reunion
Mark your calendar: August 8-10, 2008
It's
time to mark your calendar for the first university-wide reunion.
Special recognition will be given to the classes of: 1958, 1963, 1968,
1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, and 2003 from the College of Health
Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Podiatric
Medicine and Surgery. All Alumni and their families are welcome to
attend. This special event is happening in conjunction with
the Iowa State Fair. An great lineup of activities is in the

2001- Molly
(Smith) D'Costa, D.O., recently gave birth to a baby boy, Miles John
D'Costa. The family resides in Naperville, IL.
2000-
Sara (Yamout) Stafford, M.S.P.T., and her husband Peter, also a 2000
M.S.P.T. grad, welcomed a baby girl, Jenna Claire, on July 31,
2007. She joins her brother, David, 2.
1997-
Monica Green-Connell, P.T., and her husband Joseph, are the proud
parents of a baby boy, Ian Joseph. Ian, born on September 22,
2007, joins big brother Gavin. The family resides in Middlebury, CT.
1979-
W. Nick Palmer, D.O., is in his tenth year as medical director of the
Jim Ellefson Free Medical Clinic. Nick oversees 27,500 patient visits a
year. The clinic, based in Des Moines always needs
volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, call

Global Health from the Heartland
Conference a great success!
Des
Moines University's Department of Global Health, in partnership with
the Iowa Medical Society, hosted the first annual Global Health
Conference on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. The program entitled,
"Global Health from the Heartland-Honoring Medical Professionalism
and Service in Communities Abroad," was well attended by students,
faculty and clinicians. The speakers' focused on medical mission work
abroad and the involvement in these missions.

Post
Professional DPT Values Award Winners
The
Post Professional D.P.T. program recently awarded the following
students with the Values Award for the academic year: Cheryl Ben-David,
Olaide Oluwole-Sangoseni, Arlina Anog-Noble, and Freeman Qu. The
scholarship is given to students who exemplify DMU values including:
excellence, leadership, collaboration, stewardship, professionalism,
humanism, social responsibility, and learning.

The
1st Annual CHS Scholarship Day
The first annual CHS Scholarship Day will be held December 13th, 2007.
The event will be held in conjunction with the DPT Class of 2008
Scholarship Day. The goal is to bring all programs in the College of
Health Sciences together and build collegial relationships in regard to
research. Additionally, it provides a venue for students and faculty to
share their work.
The event will be held from 5-8 p.m., December 13, 2007 in the SEC
Commons area on campus if you are interested in attending.

Alum inducted to AOA Mentor Hall of Fame
Theresa M. Matzura, D.O., FACOI, '80, Clinical Professor of Internal
Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern
University (CCOM) was inducted to the AOA Mentor Hall of Fame. John
Pham, D.O., '00, was also inducted to the AOA Mentor Hall of Fame.

Alum Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Mary
Jo Robinson, D.O., FCAP, FAOCP, '87, has been honored by the American
Osteopathic College of Pathologists (AOCP) with a special Lifetime
Achievement Award. Dr. Robinson was recognized for her leadership in
AOCP and her commitment to osteopathic medical education. A past
president of the AOCP, Dr. Robinson is currently a liaison between AOCP
and the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology. She is a Fellow of both
the AOCP and the College of American Pathologists and chair of the
American Osteopathic Board of Pathology.

Recieves Honorary Degree from American Academy of Family Physicians
Leonard
Presutti, D.O., '97, associate professor of family medicine at
Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and director of the
Family Practice Residency Program at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in
Athens, Ohio, has achieved the Degree of Fellow from the American
Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
The
AAFP Degree of Fellow recognizes family physicians who have
distinguished themselves through service to family medicine and ongoing
professional development. Criteria for the degree include
extensive continuing medical education, participation in service
programs outside medical practice, original research, and service as a
teacher in family medicine.

DMU Grads Featured in New Book
Adam
Dachman, D.O., '90, and LuAnn Moraski, D.O., '95, are featured in the
book, White Coat Wisdom. Author Stephen J. Busalacchi features several
dozen extraordinary physicians, including Moraski and Dachman. For more

book will be available January, 2008.

Are you currently a COM Alumni Ambassador for the University? If so,
DMU has enhanced the program and is providing you an opportunity to
update your information online. Go to http://www.dmu.edu/alumni/mentors/
and edit or update your information.
If you are not an ambassador, and would like to serve as a mentor for
DMU students, you may also register to participate by clicking this
link. Once your information is submitted, DMU will have it readily
accessible for students via the student portal, by state and specialty.
All the student will have to do is click on a state, and depending on
your proximity, they will potentially contact you via email.
The goal is to make it easier and seamless to both you and the student
electronically. We appreciate your involvement and willingness to

2008
Sports Medicine Fellowship Opportunity for D.P.M.s
Irvine
Multi-Specialty Surgical Care (IMSC) will be sponsoring a Sports
Medicine Fellowship Program in 2008. The program is certified by the
American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM). This will mark
the 7th year of the program's existence.
The
program provides the Fellow a mix of forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle
surgery in an out-patient setting by the multiple attending staff. The
rest of the time is spent in a strong clinical and sports medicine
practice environment. The Fellow will receive excellent surgical
exposure and a solid foundation in Sports Medicine/Biomechanics.
Candidates must have a minimum of a
2-year residency (PSR 24-36 preferred.) Send CV to Program Director
