DMU to Host Family Weekend
Almost 800 People Expected to Attend!

Friday, September 14, DMU will host families and friends of entering students at an Open House. The purpose of this event is to share the "good news" to all who visit campus. Families and friends will have the opportunity to experience success stories, listen to faculty lectures, and tour the state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, the Deans of each College will explain program philosophies through presentations, and Governor Branstad will host a reception at the conclusion of the day.

To view the schedule of events, go to www.dmu.edu and click on White Coat Ceremony and Family Weekend.

White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat Ceremony for all first-year students in clinical programs will be held on Saturday, September 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. This ceremony emphasizes the professionalism expected of healthcare students, as characterized by the white jacket and defined in the DMU Honor Code. Students will again sign the Honor Code pledge on stage to confirm their commitment to the code of ethics and professional conduct specified in its tenets. The Code will also be signed by the President, the Deans of the Colleges and a representative of the alumni association.

DMU Welcomes New Students

Des Moines University officially welcomed 217 new students entering the College of Osteopathic Medicine, 59 students in the College of Podiatric Medicine and 52 students to the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Orientation activities held August 7-10. Through the cooperative efforts of all three colleges, the Registrar's Office, and the Office of Educational Support Services, the process was extremely efficient and orderly. In addition to showcasing the technology available at DMU, the orientation schedule focused on the professional expectations of all clinical students at DMU. Following the model of previous years, the schedule layered University-wide events with program-specific sessions to expose students to the dynamics of the health sciences university, while also allowing them to become familiar with the more specialized policies and procedures of their respective program.

Emerti Luncheon

DMU will host Emerti faculty on Wednesday, September 26. Following a luncheon and fellowship, tours will be conducted in the new Human Simulation Lab.
