CPMS Alum of the Year
The CPMS Alumnus/Alumnae of the Year is selected by the Alumni Council and is presented during the RITE OF PASSAGE in April. Nominees must have a proven record of service to the college, its students, and the profession.

Michael Shawn Lee, DPM, MHA
Michael Shawn Lee graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and Chemistry, which gave him a solid academic footing to pursue his studies at Des Moines University. He graduated in 1996 from CPMS, and also received his Master’s of Science degree in Health Care Administration from the College of Health Sciences at DMU.
Dr. Lee completed his residency in Podiatric Surgery in 1999 at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh before coming home to Iowa. He has had many career successes, including being Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society. He is a member of the Gesellschaft fur FuBchirurgie, the German Association of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Lee is on the Board of Directors for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and has served as chair of several committees, including the International Engagement Task Force, and co-chair of the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society.
Dr. Lee has been published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery and Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, and has lectured extensively on topics ranging from The Dilemma of the Stage 2 Flatfoot to Achilles Tendon Ruptures.
Dr. Lee is very loyal and supportive of CPMS and the University. He is a member of the Leadership Society, he lectures at DMU, and has taken many 4th year students on rotations.
Currently, Dr. Lee is a podiatrist at Central Iowa Orthopaedics in Des Moines. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor Dr. Lee, and thank you for all you do for CPMS and the profession!
