Teresa Scalise Sheahan, D.O.’08, began her third year of residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a large academic, pediatric medical center that treats more than 93,000 children every year. With nearly 500 physicians in more than 100 medical specialty and subspecialty areas, the center is ranked in the top 10 categories of medicine proficiency and excellence of care among the nation’s pediatric hospitals. Following graduation from DMU, Dr. Gunderson completed an osteopathic internship at Richmond Heights Osteopathic Hospital in Cleveland, OH. He served on active duty in the United States Navy as a general medical officer. Following his naval service, Dr. Gunderson completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He joined Rockford Anesthesiologists in 1984 where he became the vice-chair. In 1994 after developing Rockford Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), the first multispecialty freestanding surgery center in Rockford, he became the medical director of the facility. Dr. Gunderson became very involved with the ASC industry as a member of the board of directors of both the Illinois Freestanding Surgery Center Association and the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association. He serves on the board of directors of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists. He is diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiologists, a fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologist and the International College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pain Management. The governor of Illinois appointed him to the ambulatory surgical treatment center licensing board in 2007. Dr. Gunderson is a life member of the American College of Physician Executives and is currently on the board of directors of ambulatory surgery certification and clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine where he is on the executive committee of the department of surgery.

Lee Rogers, D.P.M.’04, is the associate medical director at the new Amputation and Prevention Center (APC) at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, CA. The red-carpet grand-opening for the new center will be March 17. The APC is an integrated limb-preservation center, one of the nation’s only facilities of its kind. The center uses a team-based approach that pairs podiatric physicians and vascular surgeons and has significant ramifications for the growing number of people in the country diagnosed with diabetes.

He has also competed in a triathlon as a member of Team USA. Dr. Goldberger previously raced for Team USA in 2007 in the Aquathlon World Championships in Ixtapa, Mexico. As a physician, he has covered the 1994 Soccer World Cup and the 1996 Olympic Games.

Steven Kouris, D.O., M.P.H., M.S., ’87, is professor and chairman of psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford. Dr. Kouris oversees all mental health education and clinical activity at the college, which includes several affiliated programs in northern Illinois. A specialist in developmental disorders, he recently established an autism diagnostic clinic and therapeutic school in partnership with Easter Seals of Chicago.
