Kari Nies Smith, D.P.T

Kari Nies Smith, D.P.T., earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training from South Dakota State University in 1996. She graduated from the DMU physical therapy program with her master's degree in 1998 and from the post-professional doctorate of physical therapy program in 2004.

Dr. Smith began working in the DMU Physical Therapy Clinic in 2004, and is now the clinic manager and an assistant professor in the PPDPT program. Prior to joining DMU, she enjoyed mentoring numerous DMU students while working in private practice clinics in the Des Moines area. Along with her professional contributions, she keeps busy with her three sons, enjoys Pilates and running and is involved in many church activities. Her husband, Kevin Smith, is also a graduate of the DMU MSPT and PPDPT programs; both are proud supporters of Des Moines University.
