Summer Podiatry PreviewThe College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University will host the 5th Annual Summer Podiatry Preview Program July 12, 2013. This visit day is designed for any prospective students with an interest in learning more about podiatric medicine as a potential career.

Students will spend a day at Des Moines University experiencing campus activities and student life.

How do I qualify for the program in 2013? 

To qualify for the program, applicants are expected to have a recommended overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and an interest in applying to podiatric medical schools.

When is the application deadline?

Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2013.  Following this deadline, all applicants will be reviewed, and 10-15 participants will be selected for the 2013 program.  Applicants will be notified via email by May 24 and provided with additional information at that time to assist in their travel arrangements.

Will DMU help with expenses for travel to Des Moines?

Students are responsible for all travel and lodging arrangements and expenses. DMU will provide travel stipends up to $200 to help off-set the expenses incurred during your visit to Des Moines. Travel stipends will be processed within 2 weeks following the event. Lunch will be provided during your day spent on campus.

Will this visit day benefit me as a future applicant?

The visit will provide you the opportunity to visit Des Moines University, tour our facilities, meet faculty & students, and discover if DMU is a good fit for your educational needs. Participants in the visit program will also be guaranteed an interview when they apply for admission to the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University.

What activities should I expect?

Tentative schedule of events for the day includes:

College of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery overview with the Dean
Discussion of curriculum, rotations, board exams and residency.

Admissions overview with the Director of Admission
Discussion of admission process, financial aid, student life, global health, dual degrees & technology.

Student Panel
Q & A with current DMU podiatric medical students.

Campus Tour
Demos and tours throughout campus – medical simulation labssurgical skills lab, and DMU Foot & Ankle Clinic.
