Summer Podiatry PreviewThe College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University is pleased to announce the Summer Podiatry Preview Program will be held June 14-15, 2012. This two-day visit program is designed for undergraduate students with an interest in learning more about podiatric medicine as a potential career.

Students will spend two days at Des Moines University with current podiatric medical students experiencing campus activities and student life. Students will also spend time shadowing a podiatrist in our on-campus Foot and Ankle Clinic . Most travel, lodging and meal expenses are covered by Des Moines University.

How do I qualify for the program?

To qualify for the program, applicants are expected to:

  • Have a serious interest in learning more about podiatric medicine as a potential career path.
  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, planning to enter sophomore, junior or senior year of college in fall 2012. (Other students are welcome to apply but should note that preference will be given to sophomores and juniors.)
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Submit the online application and requested materials by May 1, 2012.

How do I apply?

  • Complete an online application.
  • Submit a copy of all undergraduate transcripts – these may be unofficial copies, faxed or emailed.
  • Submit one letter recommendation from a professor or academic advisor.

May 1, 2012

What expenses will DMU cover for the summer program?

  • DMU will reimburse students’ airfare or mileage (up to $500) after students arrive in Des Moines and provide us with original receipts.
  • DMU will arrange and cover expenses for housing at a local hotel. (Students should expect to share a room with an assigned student of the same gender.)
  • DMU will arrange and cover expenses for transportation to and from campus during the program.
  • DMU will cover the expense of all sponsored meals and activities during the program.

How will the DMU Summer Program benefit me as a future podiatric medical school applicant?

  • All students attending and completing the Summer 2012 program will be guaranteed an interview when they apply for admission to the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University.
  • The summer program will provide the opportunity for students to shadow a podiatrist and spend time in our on-campus clinic.
  • Students will experience Des Moines University with current podiatric medical students and faculty members.
