Student Senate

The Student Senate of Des Moines University represents the students enrolled in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, the Division of Physical Therapy and the Physician Assistant Program.

Statement of Purpose

The Student Senate shall be the official communicating voice for relations between the student body, the faculty and the administration on issues and events that affect and involve the entire student body at Des Moines University. Intra-college issues are the responsibility of each college's Student Government Association. 

The Student Senate does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, creed, color, national origin, age, sexual orientation or disability with regard to the activities designed to carry out the meaning and intent of the Constitution and Bylaws.

Student Senate Objectives

The following are the Student Senate objectives:

  • To unite, support and represent the student body at Des Moines University in an atmosphere of respect for all individuals.
  • To assist the University in fulfilling its mission by keeping open lines of communication with all students, faculty, administration, fellow professionals and the University's many publics.
  • To promote the art and science of medicine as represented by each program comprising DMU.
  • To provide a method of student governance for University-wide issues and functions.
  • To provide a method for coordinating and funding university-wide activities
  • To coordinate and oversee university-wide committees for the benefit of all students
  • To foster student commitment and adherence to the goals of the Student Honor Code
  • To provide a forum for individual college Student Government Associations to coordinate, collaborate and conciliate.
  • To assist individual Student Government Associations as requested and appropriate.
