Financial Aid Checklist
To assist you in the Financial Aid process, use this handy checklist with step-by-step instructions on the most efficient way to apply for Financial Aid.
- For detailed information on loans, scholarship opportunities and financial aid policies, review the Financial Aid Guide at www.dmu.edu/fa
- Incoming and first-time borrowers, fill out Entrance Interview Questionnaire on line at www.dmu.edu/fa. Financial aid will not be processed until confirmation is received.
- If you are filing taxes, please complete tax form before filling out the FAFSA.
- Fill out FAFSA on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. (Our school code is 015616.) To request a PIN go to www.pin.ed.gov. In U.S. income tax paid enter your total tax NOT the amount of tax withheld. Refer to the correct line on the tax form you are using.
- Figure your personal budget up to the DMU Cost of Attendance Budget for your program. This is the maximum amount of resources you can receive including all scholarships and loans.
- To apply for a Federal Stafford Subsidized or Unsubsidized loan, fill out a Federal Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN). Available on the financial aid page of the student portal. You must also complete a DMU Stafford Loan Request Form each time you apply.
- If you need funds in addition to the Staffords you can apply for a Grad Plus loan. A link to the Grad Plus Loan MPN is available on the portal. You must also complete a DMU Grad PLUS loan request form each time you apply.
- If you were selected for verification (refer to your Student Aid Report), you should have received a Verification worksheet. Mail completed worksheet, taxes and any requested information to the school. Funds cannot be released until this has been completed.
- Once loans are processed we will send you an award letter notification via e-mail. Check the award letter for accuracy and return it if you want to lower or refuse an award (Refer to award letter)
